A lot of people like Dinnerly because it delivers low-cost meal kits with lots of easy-to-make foods.
Dinnerly is also a great choice for people who are short on time but want to eat more home-cooked meals because it has a weekly plan that changes and many recipes that can be made and eaten in 30 minutes or less.
Here's what Healthline Nutrition Editor Kelli McGrane, MS, RD, thought of Dinnerly to help you decide if you should sign up for it.

How do I use Dinnerly?
Dinnerly is a service that you can subscribe to and get cheap, easy-to-make meal kits.
In fact, Dinnerly says that its meal kits start at just $5.49 per serving, making it the cheapest food delivery service on the market. First-time users can also get discounts on the service, with prices as low as $2.99 per serving.
You can make your own meal plan by mixing and matching your best meals from the service's weekly menu, which changes every week.
There are five steps to most dinner recipes, and most of them can be made in 30 minutes or less.
Every order comes with the materials and a digital recipe card for two to six meals a week.

- 4.5 out of 5 from the tester
It was simple to sign up for Dinnerly. First, I was asked to choose a box for two or four people and three to six meals a week.
I chose food from the menu for the week. You can, however, choose to only get vegetarian choices.

Once I had decided on a plan, I entered my payment information and shipping information, such as my address and the date I wanted to receive my first package. Once my subscription was set up, I could choose meals from the plan for the week.
There are at least 45 recipes on the service's big, weekly rotating menu, many of which are low in calories, carbs, dairy, and are good for kids.
It also lists meatless meals, meals that only need one pot, meals that take less than 30 minutes to make, and meals that don't have gluten added.
It was a bit harder to choose meals than with some other meal kit services I've tried because I had to scroll through all the choices instead of being able to filter by menu or diet type. The labels were helpful, though.

You can skip as many weeks as you want with Dinnerly because there is no contract. It's also easy to switch plans with this service, and you can stop your subscription for good up to 6 days before your next payment is due.
It's easy to stop your subscription. Just go to "Settings" and find the "Stop Subscription" button.
4.5 out of 5 from the tester
Each week, Dinnerly gives you a new menu with more than 45 things to pick from.
All in all, I thought there was a good range of flavors and ingredients.
Dinnerly doesn't have set menus, but it does mark things that are good for a range of dietary needs and tastes, such as
no extra gluten
Kids-friendly, low-carb, healthy one-pot meal that takes less than 30 minutes and is spicy
chicken, meat, or seafood that is vegetarian, vegan, or dairy-free
Still, as I said before, it was hard for me to quickly find meals that met my dietary needs and tastes because I couldn't sort the recipes.
Also, keep in mind that people who have to follow certain diets may not have many choices. This is because most weekly meals only have a few options for keto, paleo, and vegan diets.
A word about allergens
Dinnerly marks things that don't have gluten added to them. But because of the chance of cross-contamination, these might not be good for people with celiac disease or another gluten-related disorder.
Also, the food is made in a facility that also handles a lot of big allergens. People who are very sensitive to or allergic to food may be more likely to get sick from cross-contamination.

The delivery
Most of the contiguous United States can use Dinnerly, and delivery is offered once a week.
Delivery times depend on where you live. But when you sign up, you can choose which delivery day works best for you.

There are ice packs and insulated bags in every order, which help keep the food fresh while it's being shipped. My package came during a heat wave, but all of the things were still cold even though the ice packs were beginning to melt.
Dinnerly's ingredients are packed loose in the box, unlike many other meal kit services. Perishables are at the bottom of the box under an ice pack.

Because it's easier to find things and helps keep my fridge clean, I like having items grouped by recipe. I think it saves money though that the things are loose in the box.
Eco-Friendly Tester score: 4 out of 5
Most of Dinnerly's packaging can be recycled or broken down in a waste pile. Online, the company also gives thorough instructions on how to recycle or get rid of each part.

Meal kit service Dinnerly offers tastes that are good for the whole family and won't break the bank.
Many of the meals come with items that are already made or measured out. This makes the recipes easy to follow and good for people who don't like to cook.
The ingredients all got here in good shape, and everyone in my family, even my picky child, liked the tastes of all the dishes.
Labels like "Healthy" and "Nutritious" are also part of the service to help you find healthier choices. But I found that most meals, even many of the ones with these health-related names, weren't balanced in terms of nutrients.
A lot of the meals had few or no veggies, and a lot of them, especially the vegetarian meals, didn't have much protein.

Everything I ordered came in good shape and looked like it was just made. However, I did notice that Dinnerly used more prepackaged or already made foods than other services, like meatballs that are ready to heat up and tomato sauce in a can.

The company says that most of the fruits and veggies it uses are not organic, which might not be good for people who like to eat organic foods. Also, it doesn't offer better choices for animal proteins, like grass-fed beef or fish that is caught in a way that doesn't harm the environment.

There were a few things that made Dinnerly stand out from the other meal kit delivery services I've tried:
The recipe cards are digital, which is a con. I know that this saves money and is better for the environment, but the recipes were harder to follow on my phone. I think I would use a laptop or tablet to look at the recipes if I tried the service again.
Not much work needs to be done ahead of time (pro): I tried three recipes, and two of them were very easy to make. All I had to do was open a few boxes and mix everything in a pot or kettle. If you don't like cooking or are new to it, Dinnerly is a good choice.
You won't be able to just give the basics (con): You'll need to provide some basic cooking supplies, like salt, pepper, butter, and oil, for Dinnerly, just like for most other meal kits. I was shocked, though, that the recipes also asked for more substantial ingredients, like flour, garlic, and eggs.
The cooking times given are estimates (pro): The meals I tried were all done 5–10 minutes before the recipe cards said they would be. It was also very easy to clean up because there wasn't much to prepare.
However, many of the meals did not have enough vegetables to be called balanced. To make things easier, you might want to keep frozen vegetables on hand or buy a salad kit when you go grocery shopping.
I also changed some other things, like adding a source of protein to one meal and cutting back on the butter in another.
Because I like to cook and am excited to try new recipes with flavors or items I haven't used before, Dinnerly isn't my first choice for any meal delivery service.
Also, it's important to note that Dinnerly isn't that much cheaper than HelloFresh or Home Chef when regular prices and shipping costs are taken into account. Both of these services scored better than Dinnerly in tests.
How much is Dinnerly?
With prices that range from $5.49 to $11.04 per dish, Dinnerly says it is the cheapest meal kit service. For new customers, the company often has deals where the price of your first box is as low as $2.99 per serve.
If you don't count deals, this is how much each serving on the two-person plan costs:
- $11.04 for two meals
- $9.04 for three meals
- $8.04 for 4 meals
- $7.64 for 5 meals
- $7.24 for 6 meals
Without any deals, this is how much each serving on the four-person plan costs:
- $8.64 for two meals
- $7.14 for three meals
- $6.64 for 4 meals
- $6.19 for 5 meals
- $5.49 for 6 meals
Besides the cost of the food kit itself, there is a flat fee of $11.99 for shipping, no matter which box you choose.
The company behind Dinnerly says it keeps its prices low by using fewer products, less packaging, and digital recipe cards instead of printed ones.

In the end
Dinnerly is a cheap meal kit service that gives you quick and easy recipes along with the things you need to make them.
Dinnerly is a great way to start cooking more meals at home without spending a lot of money. Each serving costs just $4.99.
But it might not be a good choice for people who have to follow a certain diet, have serious food allergies, or only want to eat organic food.
